Home Care Information & Health Tips:
Healthy Adults May Need Less Sleep As They Age
A study in the Feb 1 issue of the Journal SLEEP suggests that Healthy older adults can expect to have a reduced sleep need and to be less sleepy during the day than healthy young adults. Findings confirm that it is not normal for older people to be sleepy during daytime, requiring naps. Consultation with a physician is recommended for sleep disturbances or sleepiness during the day.
Dark Chocolate May Lower Stroke Risk
Now, this is some good news! Recent studies find that eating dark chocolate may lower your risk of having a stroke or lessen the likelihood of dying after a stroke. The health benefits may come from flavonoids that are thought to prevent cell damage. The findings, however, are not yet conclusive and doctors are quick to point out that too much chocolate can be harmful.
Foods that Reduce Stress Levels
Reach for these items the next time that you are feeling under pressure or under the weather. Oranges contain Vitamin C that helps to reduce stress by returning blood cortisol levels back to normal levels. Apricots are rich in magnesium which is a natural stress fighter and muscle relaxer. Almonds are packed with B & E vitamins that boost the immune system and walnuts and pistachios lower your blood pressure.
